I help organisations solve problems.
Problems about people… how do we get the most out of our team? How do we make sure we have the right people in the right positions?
Problems about resources… what do we have available to us, and how can we use that to reach our goals? What don’t we have that we need?
Problems about systems… how do we help different parts of our business work well together? What do we do if they aren’t?
Problems about context… what are our competitors doing, what is our market doing, and should we we do in response? How do we understand the rules that apply to us?
Problems about direction… where should we be going as an organisation? What is our core business, what are our natural strengths, and what is distracting us from these?

Helping you THINK better
How does your organisation think? How do you approach big decisions?
If I asked your team where the organisation aims to be in five years, would they give similar answers? Would they be similar to your answer?
Some decision makers are careful and systematic, others are more instinctive. Most of us are a mix of both. Sometimes, on the big calls, it's hard to know which way to go - so they get put off.
I can help your organisation think better by helping you clarify your goals, prioritise where to focus your effort, and make major decisions with confidence.
Helping you WORK better
When have you ever had a plan work perfectly? Have you ever looked at your business, team, or area of responsibility and thought “this is going exactly as it’s supposed to, there’s nothing we can improve”?
Most likely, the answer is no. It’s common to be overly optimistic at the start of a new initiative, and it’s common for things to go wrong when plans make contact with reality.
I can help you develop and implement plans that target the highest value improvements for your organisation, and that allow you to adjust to unexpected events while keeping your original goals in view.
Helping you REACH NEW OPPORTUNITIES
There is a range of funding opportunities available to businesses and non-profits. Some you may be aware of, but don’t feel you have the time to apply for. Some may not even be on your radar. But these opportunities can help you grow your business, pursue your mission, or get through a challenging period.
As a public servant I was often on the other side of the grant or tender equation, drafting guidance and assessing applications. So I know how to decode funding documents to figure out what funders are really looking for, and how to tell your story in a way that will get attention.
I have a special interest in helping wine businesses identify and win grants, but also work with community organisations and others looking to access new sources of funding.
About Me
Fine Grained is me - Ben Kite.
I’ve spent the first half of my career helping governments figure out how to tackle social problems.
While the specific problems varied, when reduced to the fundamentals all of this work was all about two things:
-Working out what goals to pursue and how to pursue them
-Putting plans into action and adjusting them when things don’t go as expected (which they never do).
Now I’m applying these skills to help businesses, industry bodies, government agencies and community organisations with strategy, project development and implementation.
In recent years, I’ve taken a special interest in the Australian wine industry, completing a Masters in Wine Business at Adelaide University. Supporting wine businesses to survive and find success in a tough commercial environment is now a key focus of my work.
I’d love to chat about how I can help your organisation.
